Graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes hyperthyroidism, where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, leading it to produce excessive thyroid hormones. It can also cause Graves' ophthalmopathy (eye disease) and dermopathy.
Affects 0.5-1% of the population, more common in women (ATA, 2016)
