Almond Flour Low-Carb Bread Recipe (Honest 4g carbs per slice)
Diabetes Recipes · 1 · June 27, 2026
This is the loaf to make instead of trusting a "0g carb" claim on a packet. It is genuinely low in carbohydrate and high in fibre — and we will tell you the real number rather than pretend it is zero.
Ingredients (1 loaf, ~12 slices)
- 2.5 cups almond flour
- 5 eggs
- 3 tbsp psyllium husk
- 1/4 cup melted butter or olive oil
- 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt
Method
- Heat the oven to 180°C and line a loaf tin.
- Whisk the eggs, then mix in the butter, vinegar, and salt.
- Combine the almond flour, psyllium, and baking soda; fold into the wet mix until it thickens.
- Spoon into the tin, smooth the top, and bake 40-45 minutes until firm and golden. Cool fully before slicing.
The honest numbers
Each of the twelve slices is about 4 grams of carbohydrate — most of it fibre from the almond flour and psyllium — with roughly 6 grams of protein and healthy fat. That is genuinely low, and far better than wheat bread, but it is not zero. A two-slice sandwich is about 8 grams of carbohydrate, which you can plan for. That honesty is the whole point.
Make it your own
- Add seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, flax) for crunch and extra fibre.
- Toast slices — it firms up and tastes closer to regular bread.
- Freeze pre-sliced so you only thaw what you will eat.
Why "zero carb bread" claims mislead: is keto bread really carb-free.
